Kaitlyn got a baking kit from Raddish Kids last week and has been anxious to make a Victorian Sponge Cake. Our days, and especially evenings, are always hectic, but we finally had a bit of time today before I started painting the laundry room. Kaitlyn did a fantastic job and made a lovely cake!

Wade and I are playing flag football. Some of the guys at his work organized a co-ed team and we all got together for our first practice. After practice the entire team headed down town for food and drinks. The discussion turned to movies – specifically Ong Bak, The Thai Warrior. I blogged about it earlier here. Most of us agreed it was an awesome movie and made plans to see his new movie, The Protector.
Ryan and Keefe had not seen the first movie so they stopped by to pick it up. Their daughter Etta is a big fan of dogs. Here she is getting kisses from Madison.
Later that evening we did see The Protector. I was sadly disappointed. Some of the fighting was cool, but there was no where enough knees and elbows. The movie came across as a foreign filmed that was Americanized. There was some English, some Thai, and no plot. Oh well, it wasn’t a horrible hour and a half. There was even an unexpected cameo.
I think everyone knows I have “interesting” taste in movies. Most people would call my favorites bad movies. But I know a few of you appreciate The Best of the Best, American Ninja, the real Gladiator, etc. right along with me. Brad gave me a Christmas present when he came over for Wade’s birthday last Saturday. It was a movie called Ong Bak: The Thai Warrior, which I somehow had never heard of. Then he and Ryan invited us over to watch it on their new HUGE tv. Wade wasn’t too sure about the movie (he doesn’t share my love of “interesting” movies). We all loved it. The best movie ever! The movie was in Thai with English subtitles, but that guy can fight. I’ve never seen anyone use his elbows and knees so much to take people down. Great movie! I’m betting Jason Phinney, if he hasn’t already seen it, would love it!
Tonight we had a dinner and game night at the elementary school to raise money for the 6th graders trip to Nature’s Classroom. I went to the school early afternoon to help set up and work the cashbox behind the bake sale. Wade showed up with all the kids (after Alex plainly told me he would not attend earlier in the week) for the second seating and I did take a short break to sit with them. The littles immediately checked out the prize table and couldn’t wait for Bingo to start. Ben seemed to have the worst luck and couldn’t fill a single square in on his card. Amazingly, Alex got a Bingo and immediately gave it to Ben. Before too long Kaitlyn won and got her desired prize (which one of the principals had hidden behind the table to keep safe.) The kids had a great night and it was fun to see some friends and raise some money for the sixth graders!
Everyone wanted to bake tonight. Sometimes we only have desserts on the weekend. Sometimes we only cook one dessert per night. Tonight I decided the more the merrier. Teague made churros. Ben wanted to make chocolate crepes and Alex was helping before too long.
This is the second year I have been co-treasurer for our elementary school Parent-Teacher group (PTG). For the most part, it isn’t a lot of work. I write a lot of checks, visit the bank quite a bit, and deal with a few things here and there. The entire board works really well together and we all work hard when we have an event. FunFair is one of our bigger events and my entire family gets roped into helping. FunFair is tomorrow.
Last night most of my family did some form of baking. I made a chocolate cake and Granny’s coffee cake for Musical cakes. Kaitlyn made a red velvet cake for Musical cakes. For the bake sale, we made monster cookies (me), chocolate chip cinnamon crinkles (Teague), rice krispies with m&ms (me), and chocolate dipped pretzels (Alex).
Today, the board and a few volunteers met at the school at 4pm to begin setup. Before too long, Wade showed up with all the kids and most everyone went straight to work. (The exception being Ben.)
The personality on this one is strong! Ben gets remembered everywhere we go (sometimes I’m not always sure it is for stellar reasons). Today we were walking through the grocery and the bakery lady yells, “Ben, Ben, How was your birthday?” She had remembered him from he picked out his birthday cake a few weeks ago.
This kiddo had a want list a mile long today. It was getting late in the day and we still hadn’t made the M&M chocolate chip cookies. I warned him that I was heading out to dinner with some friends and we might not have time to bake the cookies but we could at least make the dough. However, the stars aligned and we got a single sheet of cookies baked – just enough for everyone in the family to have a few.
My heart sank when I sat down to my computer and saw the green lines on my screen. The last time this happened, Wade was able to fix my computer by baking some components. However, I’m always afraid of lost data and being without a computer for a long period of time. This time it was a quicker fix and I am once again thankful for a husband who can fix most anything.
It’s been more than a little weird since the world shutdown. For the most part, the kids have handled it pretty well. The two weeks of no school would have felt more like a vacation if we had been able to go somewhere and do something. Instead Wade was working long hours on a new job and we were stuck inside with limited options. The kids have played, read, watched, and baked till they are quite bored. I think they are more than ready for some form of school. Here’s hoping that is figured out sooner rather than later. Here’s a snapshot into our day.
I found this while scrolling through Instagram an thought it summed up the world today quite nicely:
