Trick or Treat

October 31st, 2007

Wade and I were prepared this year. We had tons of candy and didn’t run out till 9 pm. I still had to turn quite a few kids away, but it was much better than last year when we turned our light off at 7 pm. I am still astounded by the number of kids we have come to our neighborhood. The parents drive around the small park and the kids knock on doors.

Emma came to trick or treat. She is wearing a costume her dad wore when he was her age. Cute, huh?

For Sale

October 30th, 2007

It’s official. I now have a for sale sign in my yard. I have to admit I don’t like seeing it there. I don’t like knowing I have to leave my house. I’m excited about the move and Wade’s new job, but I want to take my house with me. Oh well, I’m holding out hope that I will find an even better house in Milwaukee.

Wade spent the weekend creating an awesome website of pictures to facilitate selling our house. I think he did a great job. You can see all the nooks and crannies here.

It’s Done! It’s Done!

October 27th, 2007

Wade has had a lot of problems remodeling the bathroom. In his words, “It fights me every step of the way.” He had to return the sink three times to the plumbing supply store because it didn’t fit the vanity top. The first time it was because the literature gave the wrong dimensions. The second time he got a sink from a bad mold. He has had these kinds of issues from the start. When he got ready to start the crown molding he was worn out. He called a man from our bible study, Danny, who works as a contractor. Danny came over and they had the molding up in two hours. Wade had intended to pay for the help, but Danny wouldn’t let him. We’re going to come up with a creative way to repay the favor.

I spent the afternoon painting the crown molding and doing a few touch up things. Now it is all done and ready to use. I just have to move all of our stuff back downstairs.

The Pumpkin Carving Tradition

October 26th, 2007

Wade and I had our first pumpkin carving party the first year we were married and we have continued the tradition. The people sometimes change, but we always have a great time. This year we invited everyone we knew – church, work, neighbors, etc – and had a wonderful mix of people. The only person not in the photos is Debra, who had to leave early, but her pumpkin made the picture!

Pumpkin Carving Party 2007

The most interesting pumpkin was definitely Daniel and Laurie’s. I’ll let you guess which one they carved.

Wade has fun making invitations for our events. He gets to put all of his photoshop and illustrator skills to good use. This is the invite for this year’s party:

The bathroom is done -almost. The only two lacking pieces are the crown molding and the air vent cover. The walls and trim are painted, the lights are installed, the vanity and plumbing are completed, the tile is sealed, and the decorating is finished!

All The Family Comes To Town

October 24th, 2007

In the past week, we have had all of our immediate family (except Wade’s sister) come to visit. My dad and Laura came this past weekend. Mom and Melissa are currently visiting and Wade’s parents came for an evening on their way to Athens. We all went out to dinner and then spent the evening packing up my closets.

Wade and I interviewed two Realtors and have decided on the one we want to use. Her only recommendation was to take some things out of the closets. It’s a good thing I save boxes. We probably packed up 10 boxes (and my closets weren’t that full!) and put them in the attic above Wade’s shop. Now my closets have the fake look of no one really living in the house. But if this helps the house to sell then I am all for it.

My New Living Room Corner

October 23rd, 2007

Wade and I have always had my pinball machine in the living room. My mom convinced us that didn’t look quite right. We moved the pinball machine to the empty dining room and created a new nook area in the living room. I’m quite pleased with the way it turned out.

Melissa has a three-legged dog, Taylor. Taylor is about 7 years old and a very calm, well behaved dog. Madison is hyper and rambunctious and very lovable. Melissa had a lot of fun playing chase around the house with Madison and then jumping on the couch. I bet she will still be glad to get home to Taylor and a calm house.

Closer and Closer

October 22nd, 2007

If all I do is talk about the bathroom, that’s because it’s the focus of our life right now. We spent Sunday painting the walls and ceiling. Wade has spent all of today working on the trim. He is almost done with the baseboards and door frame. Then comes the caulking and painting. I can’t wait till we put in the vanity – that will make it look like a bathroom.

It’s midnight and Wade is still working, but I am headed to bed. My mom and sister are coming to visit tomorrow. I’m sure there will be some good, non bathroom, stories there.
