News from the Homefront

November 10th, 2006

I realized the other day that there is big news I haven’t posted. I don’t normally post about politics. Actually, I don’t normally care about politics. However, my dad has decided to run for governor in KY for 2007. This is a race I definitely find interesting. Here is a link to his official website.

A Day in Atlanta

November 9th, 2006

For the first time in three months, I went in to Atlanta for work. I left the house around 8, and arrived at the outlet malls in Commerce just as they opened. Gap even had 30% off everything in the store. I got to SA just in time to pick up Carol and Del for lunch – Mexican of course. Then I went in and met with my boss. I even got some new work – yahoo! Then it was on to the mall for a little more shopping until Jamie joined me for dinner. I love American Cafe – that is a restaurant Anderson definitely needs.

Playing in the Dirt

November 8th, 2006

I have a lot of work that needs doing in the yard, but I’ve been avoiding it. I kept telling myself that it would be much easier to dig up plants right after a good rain. Well the circumstances were finally right. I spent the afternoon digging up and dividing day lilies and cannas. I planted them anywhere there was bare ground, but I still had to throw a lot away. I didn’t get to planting bulbs, raking leaves, or dividing the dutch irises. There is always next week. I am sad to say I am very very sore. I’m obviously not used to digging, pulling, planting, and bending over for such a long time. I also got bit by fire ants somewhere and the bites are itching like crazy!

The Best Fall Tree

November 7th, 2006

My mom started this contest years ago. My sister, mom, and I would all search for the fall tree with the best colors. Wade even threw in his contest entry this year. Here is my tree (or rather trees). Sadly, the picture doesn’t do justice to the actual colors.

I was playing around on my computer today and found the link to our wedding website is still active. I guess Wade never takes anything down. There are some funny pictures in the slideshow.

The Long Drive Home

November 5th, 2006

Wade and I are becoming pros at these 7-8 hour drives. We loaded up the car – we even brought home a new living room chair and headed for Nashville. We stopped at the outlet mall in Nashville to return a Christmas present. Melissa and I had thought we were doing good, but mom beat it to us and bought herself new luggage. Then we continued on to Atlanta where we stopped at Waffle House for dinner. The dogs were good and even learned to share the backseat.

We even got home in time for the first fire of the year in our fireplace.

A Pool Party in November

November 4th, 2006

We traveled again this weekend. My dad and Laura had a pool built this summer, but due to the construction schedule and all the family’s schedules this was the first weekend we could have a family pool party. Thank goodness the pool is heated and the sun was shining. We actually played quite a bit. Madison took a lot of coaching but got in and did some swimming. Dad and Laura’s dogs were fascinated by the remote controlled shark and the water jets. Frank (the yellow lab) spent hours trying to “catch” the moving water exiting the jet.

Melissa, Me, Laura, and Dad in the new hot tub

Tubbles took off on me this morning and ran the length of dad’s property – 40ish acres. After her little jaunt she wouldn’t move off the porch. I have the feeling she tired herself out and didn’t help her arthritis either. Maybe next time she’ll try the pool. The pool and hot tub are filled with salt water – which means no chemicals are needed. The salt content is so low that you don’t notice and aren’t sticky when you leave the water. I like this new idea.

All Tuckered Out

November 2nd, 2006

We took the dogs back to the fenced in field for a run tonight. We’ve been working on Tubbles staying near and coming when called. She and Madison did great. Then Tubbles suddenly ran off. I thought she was running far away but she ran right to the car door and sat. She wouldn’t budge and wasn’t happy until I opened the door for her. She sat in the car and watched us play with Madison for a few minutes more. When we got back to the house, we were all tired.
