A Side Trip

May 21st, 2006

Wade and I started the trip home this morning at a leisurely pace. Actually, I’m not sure what the pace was. I was watching Veronica Mars and Wade was doing all of the driving. I looked up at one point to see him pulling off the road. He had seen signs for Natural Bridge State Park in Kentucky and wanted to do some hiking.

If I had known the plans in advance, I would have packed something other than flip flops and jeans. My lack of decent shoes wasn’t a problem and we had a great hike!

Wedding Number One

May 20th, 2006

This weekend started our summer of weddings – six weddings in six weekends. The first wedding was for my friend Edie, my roommate at Governor’s Scholars Program (GSP) in high school. There are about five of us that have kept in touch over the years. I mentioned seeing Travis here.

The wedding was an evening wedding in Louisville, KY so Wade and I decided to drive up on Saturday and then leave on Sunday. Through quite a few unplanned complications – leaving an hour late, making a wrong turn, and thinking there was a time change, we didn’t quite make it in time for the actual wedding. We arrived at the church as Edie and Aaron were walking out. We did get to be the first people to greet the newly married couple! Wade and I watched everyone going through the receiving line hoping to see Allison or Andy (other GSP friends), but didn’t see either of them. Wade and I were chatting at the reception when Allison appears. Evidently she had walked right past me earlier. We got a picture with Edie:

Then Allison and her boyfriend Marcus took us out. We had a great time! I haven’t talked to Allison in ages and I liked Marcus a lot. I even had an appletini, which was yummy – shock of shocks. We got back to the hotel around 2 am and headed straight to bed. Being in the car for 7 hours is hard work! That is a lot of Veronica Mars watching.

My Day Out

May 19th, 2006

After taking my test yesterday, I decided I needed a day off. Danielle, my next door neighbor, and her two year old daughter, Emma went with me to the Gaffney Outlets. Emma handled the hour drive great – maybe because we played Bambi on the DVD player in my car.

Having Emma around was like bringing our own entertainment. She is this tiny, petite little girl who is extremely lively. She says hello and goodbye to everyone she sees. At one point she was even adding, “Take Care.” She also liked to run up to people and say “This is Holly.” In Ann Taylor, Emma got a little restless. I took her picture and then gave her the camera. I tried to explain about not putting your finger over the lens, but that never quite sunk in. She did manage to get a pretty decent picture of Danielle.

On a side note: I have added two albums to my gallery. Kate’s Wedding is now up and some of my favorite pictures from my Semester At Sea.

Sadness

May 18th, 2006

That was a hard test! I was two points away from passing. I almost wish I had been 20 points away. I know I studied (a lot) so I am going to blame it on the luck of the draw with test questions. The test is computer generated and the questions are randomly chosen. Now I am going to start the whole process all over again – yuck!

Dogs are not Photogenic

May 17th, 2006

While trying to get the other picture of Madison, I had to take quite a few bad ones. She would sit where she was supposed to, but I don’t have a command for “close your mouth.”

My Quick Fix

May 16th, 2006

Madison recently had a visit to the groomers, which I mentioned here with my dislike of pink bows. After the rest of her hair was so short, I thought the hair on her ears looked a little long. Not wanting any more bows, I decided to do the trimming myself. Now that it has had a week to grow out, it doesn’t look so bad. (Please let me live in my little dream world.)

MIA

May 10th, 2006

Maybe instead of MIA I should say MFP – Missing From Posting….

I know I haven’t written in a while and unless something crazy out of the ordinary happens – I won’t be writing until after next Thursday. That’s the day of my big test. If all goes well then I will be writing that I passed it. If not, I will be going through another period like this when I have to do some more major studying.

Cinco de Mayo

May 5th, 2006

For the first time in my life, I celebrated Cinco de Mayo. The girls at work decided we all needed to get together with our significant others and May 5th just happened to fall on a Friday. There is even a Mexican restaurant near work so Maryellen made a reservation. I went to work for half of the day and then Wade and I ran errands until time for dinner.

Dinner was a hoot. Wade and I were a little late arriving and everyone else had started the drinking, which just made everyone really funny. I laughed nonstop. Kim even started us playing a few rounds of “I never”.
My favorie quote of the night was Tina asking, “What does Cinco de Mayo mean?”

Carol was hiding in the first picture so here is one of her and her husband, Rick.
