After a day delay, due to a mechanical failure, mom finally arrived in Greenville. Because of all the changes that were made in her flights, I wasn’t sure of her flight number or even the exact arrival time. (Part of that might be because I didn’t write anything down when we were talking.) I got to the Greenville Airport, which is super tiny, and didn’t see any flights arriving when I thought mom should be arriving. The man behind the American Airlines counter wasn’t much help so I called the 1-800 number. In response to the woman asking, “How may I help you?” I responded “I’ve lost my mother.” The woman thought that was funny and helped me figure out mom’s flight plans. American Airlines had gotten her a flight on US Airways, which explains why I couldn’t find the right flight on the board.

Mom did arrive and we headed home to show her our house and get some help with the finishing touches. Below is an example.

South Carolinian

April 7th, 2006

Is that how I say it? I am now an official South Carolinian. Wade and I spent the morning transferring our tags and licenses to South Carolina. You have 45 days after moving to the state and this is about day 42 – nothing like cutting it close. My reasoning was that I paid an arm and a leg for my tags in Georgia and I wanted to get my moneys worth. My Georgia tags conveniently expire on my birthday, which is just a few weeks away. Having information online is wonderful. I knew we first needed to go to the County Tax Auditor and pay the personal property tax on our cars. Somehow I owe more in South Carolina for my car than in Georgia. Then we went to the DMV where we had to wait only about 15 minutes. A nice change from the long lines in Virginia and Georgia. We even had a nice young man help us, who exchanged blonde jokes with us. Below were our two choices for tags. Want to guess which one we got?

Blah Blah, Woof Woof

April 6th, 2006

Remember those box DVD sets I talked about buying with my 30% off coupon at Border’s? Well one of those was the first season of Dark Angel, which I am currently watching. I decided to adopt one of the episode titles for my blog entry title.

There has been lots going on lately. Luke is almost done refinishing the floors upstairs. They should be ready for furniture by Saturday – thank goodness. Our new furniture arrived yesterday – I love it. I took cough medicine before bed last night – and slept the whole night through. I have finished with the yellow paint in the sunroom – just the trim left to paint. I finished painting the front door – now we have a door knob again – no more screw driver to open the door. I have finished painting one side of all the upstairs doors – boo to oil-based paint. Madison escaped again – she dug another hole. I took a walk with my next door neighbor – yeah for new friends. I met Jamie for a b-day dinner – yeah for old friends. Now the big question – will everything on my list get done by Monday afternoon when mom arrives?

Success!

April 1st, 2006

I woke up this morning feeling much better and even had most of my voice back. Wade and I set out to buy supplies for the weekend – paint and such. We ended up driving to Easley, Seneca, and then back to Anderson to find the vanity we wanted for our upstairs bathroom. Now we just have to find someone with the faucet in stock – Seneca does not have it by the way.
